Hi,
Just curious, does any of you play muds? And if so, which ones do you play?
Personally I've been playing some of the standard diku muds and other codebases like that, like midevil-ish theam with magic thrown in, although I'm still fairly active at SWMud which is a starwars mud, I've tried some others, but there are too many to list here, some I suicided my character a day after I started it.
Malthe.

Great, is that a web one? Or do you use a mud client to play it?

Post 4 by SingerOfSongs (Heresy and apostasy is how progress is made.) on Monday, 30-Apr-2007 17:58:05

Those are web games, not muds.
AS for myself, I play a mud called Miriani. Info on that can be found at www.toastsoft.net
I've played some others, but none that I've stuck with that long other than the formentioned and a couple that have since been shut down.

Oh. There's one called galactic conquest. The connection info is:
gc.duranaki.com Port 2323
It's not like a normal mud. It's an empire building game, and you don't have a character that moves per say. You control ships that you own (you start out with one, and get more, building your empire against other players trying to build theirs.)
I played for a while, and had fun for a bit, but I got bored. However, I'm easily bored, so don't necessarily let that deter you.

Post 7 by malthe (Pimply-Faced Youth) on Wednesday, 02-May-2007 8:23:23

Great, is it a strategy-ish thing?

Post 8 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Wednesday, 02-May-2007 14:31:45

also, as far as miriani goes. www.liamerven.com/miriani has a link to a client we use as well as a self-installing sound pack.

yay Liam!

Post 10 by Chicken Scratch (Account disabled) on Sunday, 13-May-2007 17:20:08

sounds like fun...Um, at the moment I don't play any muds. I used to play one called Unicorn Valley, but I got my characters stuck in a picture and so now I can't really play any more. LOL. I'll probably check sme of those other Muds out though, they sound like fun. :)

Post 11 by corol (Newborn Zoner) on Monday, 09-Jul-2007 1:04:29

hey everyone i play hel its a cool mud. i never used to play them until my friend got me in to them i have also played godwars and eternal darkness. but my favourate one is hell its more realistic in some ways. i use a mud client to play it. if anyone is interested the hoste is hell.game-host.org and the port is 7777. its great try it. i have two charactors on there called lima and corol. corol is in a corp which is a company called blinkies if anyone wants to join then look out for me on there i will be able to add you in the corp with me, kelwin or on some games he may be known as andural. and my other friend sweetsoprano.

Post 12 by SingerOfSongs (Heresy and apostasy is how progress is made.) on Monday, 09-Jul-2007 7:21:21

To the persot that asked about galactic conquest: yes, it's a strategy game. It gets reset every... 2 to 3 months I think. It's been a while since I set foot on there.
to the person that posted about the hell game: what's the plot?

Post 13 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Thursday, 12-Jul-2007 11:30:01

hell is an evil evil game. like seriously. you do stuff that even I question the morality of. but for some reason it amuses me. you can find out more info at http://hell.game-host.org. remember it's for those who are 18 and over. and there are very good reasons for this.

Post 14 by Zack (Generic Zoner) on Monday, 16-Jul-2007 23:37:04

ok I use monkey term and can't figure out how to make a new connection to add a new mod, like I had the merry oney scripts, and then uninstalled monkey term and now want to play alter eon but can't connect, help please

Post 15 by SingerOfSongs (Heresy and apostasy is how progress is made.) on Tuesday, 17-Jul-2007 4:27:53

That's because using monkeyterm, in order to make it accessible you have to have certain things actually as a part of your script in order to make it accessible with speech. You can find some useful instructions about this at http://www.randylaptop.com/mudding/client.php Hope that helps.

kallistimud.com 4000

that's my all time fav, it's been around sense 1992 as well.

Post 17 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Wednesday, 18-Jul-2007 16:00:36

forgive the stupidity...
I have telnet installed, automatticly. Now, if I wanted to play a game that didn't have it's connection linked, like where I could click the link and telnet would just pop up and be ready,
how do I go in and enter in the port info for a game with it's info just, there, not linked?
hope no one got confused...

Post 18 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 18-Jul-2007 16:36:27

never heard of muds. must be an idiot lol.

Post 19 by Texas Shawn (The cute, cuddley, little furr ball) on Wednesday, 18-Jul-2007 17:05:45

Carla.

windows key r

then type cmd in the box hit enter

type telnet address.com space port number

there ya go.
once ya get done exit to return to windows.

Post 20 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Wednesday, 18-Jul-2007 18:24:28

I'm lost.
right, so I hit cmd and enter
and it said something to the effect of
"Compact_owner>"
I'm not exactly, sure how to enter in the address and port. it's a .org address
is it address space port enter?
I tried that, and it didn't work.
hitting tab, it gave me a list of applications, desktop, print hood, stuff like that.
so.. yeah.
*wanders around in darkness

Post 21 by malthe (Pimply-Faced Youth) on Wednesday, 18-Jul-2007 19:03:01

Personally I use a mud client do to aliases and scripting capabities, but you can do it in a number of ways, among them are these, if I remember correctly:
1: run, cmd, press enter, telnet <address> <port-num>, then it's something like control-something to quit out, you can get help on it by just launching telnet from the command prompt.
2: in run Type telnet:host:port
3: You could just not use the command prompt and type it strait into run, telnet adddr port.
Hth, Malthe.

Post 22 by SingerOfSongs (Heresy and apostasy is how progress is made.) on Wednesday, 18-Jul-2007 19:13:29

It depends on which version of windows you are running. Another way that works in windows XP is to go to the run prompt, type telnet, then press enter. in the telnet window that comes up, type o (for open) followed by a space, then the address, another space, then the port number.

Post 23 by retrieverdog (when I'm in seventh hour, my work does show.) on Sunday, 22-Jul-2007 20:46:57

wooooo Miriani rules!!
actually I got mad at someone so I never log on anymore. but my name's Xandria Fellbrooks or something like that I forgot what it was.
Alter Aeon is awesome, to.

Post 24 by Zack (Generic Zoner) on Monday, 23-Jul-2007 14:00:13

yehp alter aeon is a grate game. its very easy at first but gets harder

Post 25 by Coldshadow (supreme commander of the shadow fleet) on Tuesday, 31-Jul-2007 23:26:05

Alter aeon is boring.

Post 26 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Wednesday, 01-Aug-2007 7:32:42

I don't see how you guys do muds. I mean, it's ok, if I want to be aggravated at something, but don't you get all the funny signs like
(^b)(A)[[[]]
you know, that sort of thing? when I play, I have to delete them away, and it's just annoying.
lol, but that's my non technical self at work.
*shrugs.

Post 27 by Texas Shawn (The cute, cuddley, little furr ball) on Wednesday, 01-Aug-2007 8:32:04

what do you mean, Do you get those when you type or something?
I've been playing muds for a good 13 years or more. there a blast.

the most accessable game out there.

Post 28 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Wednesday, 01-Aug-2007 9:00:01

like, yeah when I type, and they're in the reading part too sometimes. lol, people like me just shouldn't bother with complicated things like that. :P

Post 29 by malthe (Pimply-Faced Youth) on Friday, 03-Aug-2007 7:03:41

I think those are anci colours, in some muds you can turn those off. I can't remember if monkey term actually strips them away or something, not sure though, I never turn them on.

Post 30 by Chicken Scratch (Account disabled) on Friday, 10-Aug-2007 16:34:02

I tried MonkeyTerm once, and it wouldn't work for me. I tried everything I could to get it to log onto Miriani for me, but nothing worked. I much prefer Telnet, because once I get past all the intro stuff, jaws reads new stuff to me automatically.
I don't like Alter Eon much, because I could never get past level five or so. Miriani was fun, but I couldn't figure out how to do...pretty much anything. so mostly I just stick to UV.

Post 31 by Coldshadow (supreme commander of the shadow fleet) on Sunday, 12-Aug-2007 22:09:19

What is UV?

Post 32 by Coldshadow (supreme commander of the shadow fleet) on Wednesday, 15-Aug-2007 18:48:23

Does anyoue know of any other muds/mush/muks besides the ones that were mentioned?
I'm looking for something a bit more then what has been hi these mentioned ones.

Post 35 by Chicken Scratch (Account disabled) on Saturday, 29-Sep-2007 16:16:41

To Orin: Thanks, I'll have to check it out. sounds like fun.

Post 36 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Saturday, 29-Sep-2007 21:53:04

The husband and I have recently joined Miriani. My character is a tall, nerdy, black boy named Lamont Cranston; he's a member of the Commonwealth of Free Spirits. My husband is Robard something, and is in Hail. For now, I am just using the Windows telnet client. I may check out the page on Liam's site regarding Miriani. I had no success with Monkeyterm.

I was a bit hesitant to try Miriani, due to previous bad experience on muds, especially as a newbie. We are agreed that the folks on Miriani are most polite, helpful, welcoming.

Also, to those who like rollplaying, there is a mud called materia magica. You can find the sight at materiamagica.com port 6666, but there are a lot of other ports like 9000 and a couple more so check it out!

Post 38 by Coldshadow (supreme commander of the shadow fleet) on Sunday, 30-Sep-2007 17:13:16

for anyone into the startrek based stuff, there are a couple mushes out there you might like,
ats.trekmush.org port 1701

tkhasi.betterbox.net port 4342.

Post 41 by The Roman Battle Mask (Making great use of my Employer's time.) on Monday, 01-Oct-2007 3:03:53

Maybe you should spend the 10 seconds to read the link which was provided earlier to Hell instead of expecting us to tell you absolutely everything.
